| Eagles Zap Minutemen, 3-0 | The Washington Eagles topped the Boston Minutemen, 3-0, in Federal Association action at Columbia Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Washington pitcher and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, native Bill Kelly. Kelly yielded no runs over 8.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. His record improves to 7-2. Washington now sports a record of 36-38.
The Eagles got a big boost from center fielder Don Whited who had a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the first inning off Minutemen hurler Bob Scott. It was his 23rd walk of the season and put Washington on top, 1-0.
"Watch and learn," said Whited. "This is what good pitching looks like." | |
