| Stars Come Up Short at Kansas City, 5-4 | The Kansas City Mavericks beat the Los Angeles Stars, 5-4, at Mavericks Stadium. Bob Howard, in particular, was impressive. He was 3-4 with a triple and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. After today's action, Kansas City sits at 30-44, while Los Angeles falls to 36-37.
Had Howard not come through in the bottom of the seventh, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Howard hit a run-scoring single. The Mavericks took the lead, 4-3, and never looked back.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Kansas City manager Bob Bendick. "It's usually not just one thing."
