| Chicago Tumbles Again, Falls, 6-2, to Atlanta | Atlanta Copperheads starter Marco Middleton led his team to victory over the Chicago Chiefs, 6-2. The right-hander was locked-in. Middleton got the win, improving to 2-1. He gave up 8 hits and walked 5 over 8 innings. He allowed 2 runs. Chicago, now 4-13, continues its tough start.
Howard Smith had a big solo home run for the Copperheads in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Atlanta leading 3-2 and the bases empty, he sized up a knuckle curve from Larry Barker, who finished 5th in the CA in strikeouts with 193 in 1970, and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Copperheads on top, 4-2.
In postgame comments to the Atlanta News, Middleton said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
