| Pioneers Lose, 3-2, as Chiefs Rally | In a low-scoring tilt between the Chicago Chiefs and the St. Louis Pioneers, Johnny Maples, who is tied for 8th in the FA with a 5.9 K/9 rate, was the difference-maker. The Chicago right-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. The Chiefs improved their record to 26-45 by beating St. Louis.
Chicago used the timely hitting of Andy Ellefsen to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Chiefs on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Tip of the cap to the Chiefs," said St. Louis manager Babe Johnson. "They played a good game." | |
