5-4 Loss Extends New York Losing Streak | The Montreal Saints defeated the New York Imperials, 5-4, in Continental Association action at Dyckman Stadium. Montreal pitcher Jim Montgomery had a standout performance. Montgomery got the win, improving to 1-2. He gave up 5 hits and walked 1 over 7 innings. He allowed 4 runs. Picking up the save was Cliff Dinger, his 1st.
Bob Vernon came through for Montreal when he hit a run-scoring single in the top of the third. With a runner on 2nd, he hit a two-strike slider to left field, staking his team to a 5-4 lead.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Vernon told the Montreal Bulletin.
The Saints, now 3-8, have not found much traction so far in 1962. | |
