| Great Effort by Gates Wasted in 6-5 Sailors Loss | The Los Angeles Stars spoiled a good performance by San Francisco shortstop Art Gates, bumping off San Francisco, 6-5, at Golden Gate Stadium. Gates went 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. At 35-35, the Stars claim 4th place in the Continental Association West.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Irv Boggs? The 32-year old second baseman Boggs stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put Los Angeles up, 6-5. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Boggs said after the game. | |
