| Cannons Lose Contest, 4-1 | The New York Imperials topped the Cincinnati Cannons, 4-1, in Continental Association action at Tice Memorial Stadium II. The standout performance belonged to New York pitcher and Buffalo, New York, native Jim White. White, now 6-7, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. New York's record now stands at 36-32, placing them second in the Continental Association East.
New York used the timely hitting of Mike Counts to capture the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Imperials on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but he made it count.
Said losing manager Charlie Britton: "'I liked the effort, just not the results." | |
