| Barton, Cougars Beat Sailors, 5-4 | Jim Barton knocked in 3 runs to help Chicago beat San Francisco, 5-4. Barton produced 3 singles and 1 home run. Chicago pitcher Pug White earned the win, hiking his record to 1-0. Eddie Chapman suffered the loss. The Cougars, now 7-2, have been playing some good baseball.
Barton contributed in the bottom of the fifth. With runners on 1st and 3rd, he hit a run-scoring single. It was one at-bat among others that helped Chicago get the win.
"If we keep winning the close games," Barton said, "we'll be in good shape at the end."
