Both teams had their chances, but the Cleveland Foresters eventually prevailed.

Cleveland pitcher Sonny Stoyer did his part in helping his team beat the New York Imperials, 4-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Stoyer yielded 3 runs over 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 5, and struck out 6. His record improves to 1-0. Picking up the save was Johnny Ogden, his 1st.

Jerry Hubbs hit a 2-run double off Ernie Tisdale in the bottom of the fourth, which put the Foresters in front, 2-1. In addition to the double, Hubbs had 1 single, while going 2 for 3.

"I was a little disappointed," said New York manager Ed Ziehl. "We could've and should've scored more runs."

New York drops to 1-8.
