Thornton Shuts Out Stars, 5-0
The Los Angeles Stars manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the New York Imperials. The Stars were overpowered by New York starter Emmett Thornton, who hurled his club to victory, 5-0.

"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Charley McCullough said.

Over 9 innings, Thornton blanked Los Angeles on 3 hits with no walks and 4 strikeouts.

"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Thornton said.

"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."

This season to date, Thornton has a record of 4 wins and 7 losses with a 4.73 ERA, has appeared in 15 games and struck out 49 in 85.2 innings.
