| Taylor Stops Montreal Cold, Pioneers Win, 5-0 | There was no spell, no black magic -- just good pitching.
Joe Taylor of the St. Louis Pioneers blanked the Montreal Saints, 5-0, at Parc Dumfries, and he did it the old-fashioned way. After finishing the 1-hit, complete-game shutout, he was all smiles.
"I threw a lot of my pitches for strikes in this game," Taylor said. "I mixed it up and tried keeping these guys off balance."
Taylor walked 3 and struck out 7 in the victory.
"He was throwing his breaking ball for strikes and we never capitalized on any of his mistakes," Saints manager Jim Jenkins said later.
Checking out his stats for the season, Taylor has notched 4 wins and 1 loss in 5 starts. His ERA is 3.23 and he's struck out 27 batters in 39 innings. | |
