| Gothams Handed 1-0 Loss | Bunny Mullins pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The New York Gothams, despite Mullins's fine outing, dropped a 1-0 decision to the St. Louis Pioneers at Pioneer Field III. The winning pitcher was Red Kline. His record now stands at 5-5. The right-hander went 7 innings, allowing no runs on 7 hits for the Pioneers. With the win, the Pioneers hiked their record to 32-32.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Pioneers had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the third, when center fielder Art Williams hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Bunny Mullins and made the score 1-0, Pioneers. Williams was 2 for 4 with a double.
"Tough win," said Williams. "We had to earn it." | |
