| Imperials Grind Out 2-1 Win | The New York Imperials claimed a close win over the Toronto Wolves, due in large part to Emmett Thornton. The New York right-hander pitched a great game to secure the 2-1 win. In 7 innings, Thornton surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. The Imperials improved their record to 31-32 by beating Toronto.
New York left fielder Mike Counts helped the Imperials go up, 2-1, in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the game tied, Counts hit a run-scoring single off Toronto pitcher Red Bullock.
"Clutch hitting plus clutch pitching usually equals a win," said Counts. | |
