| Minutemen Sneak Past Dynamos, 2-1 | The Boston Minutemen picked up a win at Minuteman Stadium, downing the Detroit Dynamos, 2-1. On the mound for Boston was left-hander Richie Thornton, who played a pivotal role in the win. Bud Shireman notched the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record now sits at 6-3. The second-place Minutemen now have a record of 36-29.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Charlie Hartsell came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Detroit pitcher Charlie Christianson, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Boston on top, 2-1.
"Richie was throwing free and easy," said Boston manager Dode Edwards. | |
