| Minneapolis Downs Houston, 6-3 | The Minneapolis Millers locked up a win at Hennepin County Stadium, knocking off the Houston Comets, 6-3. On the mound for Minneapolis was right-hander Joe McDowell. He played a major role in the triumph. Minneapolis reliever Wayne Stevens picked up the win to move to 1-1. George Roy suffered the loss. The save went to Ben Baird, his 4th this season.
Greensboro, North Carolina-born Julio Castaneda came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the seventh, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Millers trailing 2-1, he hit a 2-run single to right to put Minneapolis on top.
Castaneda called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
Minneapolis goes to 9-8.
