Punchless Gothams Fall, 13-0, to Chicago | Chicago starter Jack Halbur throttled the New York offense, as the Chiefs won in a rout, 13-0. Halbur, now 8-5, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Chicago goes to 49-42, New York to 40-52.
Chicago used a clutch at-bat from Al Padgett to capture the win. The catcher hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Chiefs ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"They beat us like the proverbial rented mule," said losing manager Bert Carlton. | |
