Sailors Deal Kings 5-4 Setback | The San Francisco Sailors topped the Kansas City Kings, 5-4, in Continental Association action at Prairie Park. The game was highlighted by the performance of San Francisco pitcher Charlie Lawson. Lawson, now 9-4, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 6, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs. Gary Pike earned the save for San Francisco, his 1st.
San Francisco used the timely hitting of Edwin Hackberry to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Sailors on top, 5-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Banging out wins is what it's all about," said Hackberry.
With the victory, the Sailors record stands at 51-45. | |
