| Pioneers Squeeze By Montreal, 2-1 | The St. Louis Pioneers managed to get by the Montreal Saints, 2-1, in 11 innings at Pioneer Field. St. Louis pitcher Tom Spongberg set himself apart with his performance. St. Louis pitcher Mike Nipp got the win. He's now 2-0. Dick Dean was tagged with the loss. The victory makes St. Louis 11-12.
The decisive blow was delivered by Alan Zuber in the bottom of the 11th when he hit a run-scoring double off fan favorite Dick Dean to win the game for St. Louis. The home crowd went nuts.
"We had a chance to win," said Montreal manager Jim Jenkins, "but we didn't get it done."
