| Foresters Edge Past Sailors, 3-2 | The Cleveland Foresters handed the San Francisco Sailors an extra-inning, 3-2 defeat at Forester Stadium. Catcher Mel Cardoza starred for Cleveland. He was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times. The win was credited to Ed Squires in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Danny Horne took the loss. The second-place Foresters improved to 33-28.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the 11th. With no one out, Cardoza hit a fastball from Danny Horne for a solo home run. The Foresters, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
"It was a test of wills," said Ray Parsons, the Cleveland skipper. "I'm glad we came out of it with a win." | |
