| Comets Win at Minneapolis, 3-1 | The Houston Comets downed the Minneapolis Millers, 3-1, at Hennepin County Stadium. Stellar pitching by Johnny Blackburn had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who finished 3rd in the FA in strikeouts with 160 last year, handcuffed his opponent all game. The save went to Bob Young, his 6th this season. Minneapolis drops to 8-8.
The Comets had to work out of trouble in the bottom of the ninth. The score was 3-1, Houston, with no one out. Minneapolis, with the bases empty, was mounting a threat. Clyde Allen dug in at the plate, but on a 3-1 fastball, he popped out. | |
