| Houston Earn 2-1 Victory at Thompson Field | Jay Hunt, who finished 3rd in the FA in saves with 24 in 1971, was locked in. The right-hander led the Houston Comets to a 2-1 win against the Detroit Dynamos at Thompson Field. The winner in relief was Bob Young. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. The win brings the Comets to 7-5, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
Frank Bailey came through with a big-time hit for Houston. The first baseman smacked a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"Not enough offensively in a winnable game," said losing manager Roger Cleaves.
