| Copperheads Pocket 6-3 Win Against Washington | The Atlanta Copperheads overcame a pretty good performance by Washington third baseman Tom Lorang, beating the Eagles, 6-3, at Peachtree Stadium. Lorang was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Harry Inge picked up the win, lifting his record to 2-0 on the season. He struck out 2 and walked 3 in 5.1 innings, while yielding 3 runs. The save went to Buddy Thomas, number 4 for him.
Atlanta catcher Howard Smith contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a screwball to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 11th hit of the season and put the Copperheads ahead, 4-3.
Atlanta manager Don Fox said his team played a "no nonsense" game.
The Eagles, now 4-10, continue their inauspicious start. | |
