| Pioneers Win, 9-3, Versus Minneapolis | The St. Louis Pioneers withstood an impressive performance by Minneapolis shortstop Bill Barber to defeat the Millers, 9-3, at Hennepin County Stadium. Barber was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Roy McDonald was the winner in relief. His record is now 1-3. The losing pitcher was Hank Wagner. The Pioneers, with just their 4th win in 14 games, have played uninspired baseball so far.
St. Louis used a timely hit from Jim Robinson to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Pioneers ahead, 4-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said St. Louis manager Babe Johnson.
