McCarthy Superb Against Philadelphia
"Good pitching beats good hitting" is an old baseball adage.

Well, good pitching also beats bad hitting.

Joe McCarthy of the Houston Comets proved the point at Dalton Domed Stadium, holding the Philadelphia Keystones to 6 hits in a complete game shutout victory.

"McCarthy made us look real bad today," Keystones manager Charlie Leist said in a postgame interview. "He was outstanding. He was down in the zone with all his pitches. Everything was sinking."

McCarthy had 8 strikeouts and gave up no walks as the Comets took the 2-0 win.

McCarthy has made 14 starts so far this year and put up a 10-3 won-lost record with a 1.86 ERA. In 111.1 innings he has allowed 79 hits, walked 26 and struck out 83.
