| Detroit Scrapes Out 4-1 Win | Boston wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Hank Springer, falling to the Detroit Dynamos, 4-1. Springer threw 8.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Detroit pitcher Bob Reed earned the win, hiking his record to 2-5. Bud Shireman suffered the loss. Their 19-38 record puts the Dynamos 5th in the Federal Association West.
Detroit got a clutch hit from Pete Dance. The pinch hitter launched a grand slam home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a kill shot.
"That was high adrenalin and it was fun," Dance said.
