| Chiefs in Free Fall, Lose 8th Straight | The Washington Eagles walked off with a big win.
The Washington Eagles overcame a good performance by Chicago shortstop Tommy Ashton to knock off Chicago, 5-4, in 10 innings at Columbia Stadium. Ashton was 2 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs. Don Maguire picked up the win in relief for Washington, while John Thomas took the loss.
The Eagles got a clutch hit from pinch hitter Red Johns. In the bottom of the tenth, he hit a run-scoring single to right, to win the game for the Eagles.
"I want us to come out, have fun, hit some balls, and score. We're having a tough time," said Ollie Howard, the Chicago manager.
The Eagles sit in 5th place in the Federal Association East with a record of 30-31. | |
