| Boston Decked by Smith, Pioneers | A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the St. Louis Pioneers and Boston Minutemen.
A 3-RBI performance from left fielder Jerry Smith, who is tied for 4th in the FA in doubles with 21, led the St. Louis Pioneers to a win over the Boston Minutemen, 8-2. The winning pitcher was John Thomas Johnson. He's now 7-2. He went 7.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits for the Pioneers.
A key moment came with two out in the bottom of the third. That's when Smith hit a splitter from Steve Miller for a run-scoring single, putting St. Louis up, 2-0.
"I like the vibe in the clubhouse after a win," said Smith. "It sure beats the alternative."
The loss makes Boston 38-52.
