Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Atlanta Copperheads and the St. Louis Pioneers. Atlanta won it, 2-1, in 10 innings. Atlanta starter Marco Middleton was in command. The winner was Atlanta reliever Ike Abraham, now 4-1. The loser was Lloyd Ethridge. Atlanta is now 37-20.

The Copperheads relied on third baseman Jim Duchesne for the game-winning hit. And, in the bottom of the tenth, he delivered, hitting a run-scoring single to seal the deal.

"Pedal to the metal" is how Atlanta manager Don Fox described his team's approach.
