| Foresters Victors, 5-3, at Kansas City | Cleveland and Kansas City got after it at Prairie Park.
The Cleveland Foresters beat the Kansas City Mavericks, 5-3. Cleveland pitcher and Reno, Nevada, native Roy Rice led the way. Rice got the win, improving to 9-3. He gave up 8 hits and walked 0 over 8 innings. He allowed 3 runs. Bob V James recorded the save for Cleveland, his 5th of the season.
Cleveland used a well-timed hit by Herb Reed to capture the win. The second baseman socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Foresters ahead, 5-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"Even if things get a little hairy, Roy trusts his ability," said Cleveland manager Ray Parsons.
The third-place Foresters improved to 28-25. | |
