| Chiefs Take Tight Tangle | The Philadelphia Keystones got a sterling performance from pitcher Doc Carver, but the Chicago Chiefs still prevailed, 3-2. Carver threw 7.0 innings allowing 1 run. Phil Murphy picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Jim Steuber suffered the loss. Hal Alsip closed it out for Chicago, earning his 8th save.
Chicago took a 3-2 lead on Babe Thornton's 4th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Thornton hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Philadelphia pitcher Jim Steuber visibly frustrated.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Philadelphia manager Charlie Leist.
The 5th-place Chiefs are 28-30. | |
