Suns Trip Miners, 9-7
The Los Angeles Suns topped the Pittsburgh Miners, 9-7, with youngster Bill Bell playing a key role. Bell went 3 for 5 with 2 doubles, while scoring 3 times for the Suns in the win. The winner was Doc Carver, who threw 114 pitches over 6 innings. The left-hander was charged with 2 runs on 6 hits. Frank Carey earned his 10th save, after closing out the game.

Russ Hawkins had a big run-scoring triple for the Suns in the top of the fifth inning. With Los Angeles leading 3-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a sinker from Mike Blackham, who finished 3rd in the FA in ERA with 3.28 in 1960, and swatted a triple to right. It was his 3rd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Suns ahead, 4-1.

"When you're losing, the game looks more difficult to play than it is," said Pittsburgh manager Harry Barrell.

The Miners have now dropped 11 straight.
