Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Boston Beacons and Detroit Lancers.

The Boston Beacons topped the Detroit Lancers, 6-2, in Union League action at Thompson Field. The standout performance belonged to Boston pitcher and The United States, native Austin Mayer. The loss drops the Lancers to 8-9.

Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Owen Gill? The 34-year old center fielder Gill stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put Boston up, 4-1. For the game, he was 3 for 5, including 1 double and 2 singles.

"I still think this team can play even better," Mayer told the Boston Daily News.
