Eagles Walk It Off for 8th Win of Season | Howdy Oakes left his imprint on the 5-3 Washington win against the Pittsburgh Miners. Oakes, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1959 draft, went 2-3 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Dick Adams Jr., credited with the win in relief, is now 3-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. Pittsburgh falls to 7-8.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the ninth. With no one out, Oakes hit a changeup from Manny Espinosa for a 2-run home run. The Eagles, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
"This was a good win," said Oakes. | |
