| Millers Score Late to Beat Pioneers, 2-1 | Both teams had their chances, but the Minneapolis Millers eventually prevailed.
In a low-scoring tilt between the Minneapolis Millers and the St. Louis Pioneers, 23-year old right-handed pitcher Bob Ciaramella was the difference-maker. The Minneapolis right-hander spearheaded the 2-1 win. Minneapolis reliever Ben Baird picked up the win, upping his record to 4-0. Roy McDonald was saddled with the loss.
Had Gene Holbrook not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Holbrook hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Millers.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Holbrook told the Minneapolis Citizen.
The Pioneers, now 3-10, continue their inauspicious start. | |
