| Washington Defeated by Atlanta, 2-1 | Peachtree Stadium was the site of a remarkable pitchers' duel.
Atlanta Copperheads starter Jack Kotarski was in fine form. He led his team to victory over the Washington Eagles, 2-1. Kotarski, the winner, moves to 2-0. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 3 walks. Buddy Thomas wrapped it up, recording his 3rd save.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Copperheads had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when shortstop John Newton hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Buck Guthrie and made the score 2-1, Copperheads. Newton went 1-4.
Newton said his team "played with determination."
The Eagles, at 4-9, have stumbled out of the gate. | |
