Eagles Bash Miners, 12-2
Enthusiastic fans came out to support the home team at Columbia Stadium.

The performance of George Whaley proved critical in helping Washington beat Pittsburgh, 12-2. The Eagles first baseman was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. The current losing streak for Pittsburgh has reached 7 games.

The Eagles got a big hit from pitcher Wally Phillips. Facing Pittsburgh pitcher Foster Thurman in the bottom of the eighth, Phillips pounded a 3-run home run to center. His 1st home run of the season put the Eagles ahead, 12-2.

"We're in a funk and we need to shake ourselves out of it," said Pittsburgh manager Harry Barrell.
