| Minutemen Edge Pioneers, 3-2 | Fans watched the Boston Minutemen and the St. Louis Pioneers fight to the finish.
In a low-scoring contest between the Boston Minutemen and the St. Louis Pioneers, Bill Kelly, who finished 4th in the FA in ERA with 2.89 in 1973, proved to be the difference. The Boston right-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-2 Minutemen win. The save was credited to Bud Shireman, his 4th.
The Minutemen got a big at-bat from left fielder Dick Ward. For the game, Ward was 1-4 with a home run. In the bottom of the third, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 9th home run of the season gave Boston a 3-2 lead.
"We were in it," said St. Louis manager Babe Johnson. "We just didn't score enough runs."
The last-place Pioneers have lost 4 straight games. | |
