Miners Earn Clutch Win, 3-2
The Pittsburgh Miners, despite a fine performance by New York pitcher Les Freedman, grabbed a 3-2 win at Fitzpatrick Park. Freedman allowed 1 run over 7 innings. Frank Maxwell snagged the win in relief. He goes to 4-1 on the season. Bill Howard suffered the loss. With the loss, New York sinks to 16-14.

Gale Schmitt was the walk-off hero for Pittsburgh. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Miners right fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"Tough loss," said New York manager Bert Carlton. "But we'll rebound from it."
