Kowalski Razor-Sharp, Shuts Out Indianapolis
There was no spell, no black magic -- just good pitching.

Skel Kowalski of the Detroit Lancers blanked the Indianapolis Red Caps, 8-0, at Thompson Field, and he did it the old-fashioned way. After finishing the 7-hit, complete-game shutout, he was all smiles.

"I threw a lot of my pitches for strikes in this game," Kowalski said. "I mixed it up and tried keeping these guys off balance."

Kowalski walked 2 and struck out 5 in the victory.

"He was throwing his breaking ball for strikes and we never capitalized on any of his mistakes," Red Caps manager Oscar Featherstone said later.

This season, Kowalski has gone 8-6 with an ERA of 3.43, posting 43 strikeouts in 144.1 innings.
