| Cannons Earn 4-3 Win Versus Lancers | The Baltimore Cannons did just enough to sneak past the Detroit Lancers, 4-3, at Timmons Park. Baltimore pitcher Sam Lehman, in particular, had a standout performance. Lehman, now 1-0, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 6, walking 3, and allowing 3 runs. The loss has the Lancers at 1-1.
Had Gary Veach not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Veach hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Cannons.
"No disrespect to the other team," said Baltimore manager Monty Beatson. "But it's nice to get an easy win."
