| Keystones Get Past Boston for 3-2 Win | In a low-scoring contest between the Philadelphia Keystones and the Boston Minutemen, Joe Downing, who finished 4th in the CA in wins with 18 in 1971, proved to be the difference. The Philadelphia right-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-2 Keystones win. Downing yielded 2 runs over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. His record improves to 1-1. With the loss, Boston sinks to 2-5.
Had Pete Morris not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Morris hit a 2-run single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Keystones.
Morris said his team "played with focus and determination." | |
