Newhall Goes Deep Twice, Helps Minutemen Top Chiefs, 7-1 | The home crowd had a good time watching the Chicago Chiefs and Boston Minutemen get after it.
A 4-RBI performance from Bill Newhall, who finished 2nd in the FA in batting average with .318 in 1952, helped the Boston Minutemen beat the Chicago Chiefs, 7-1. The loss drops Chicago to 14-10.
Newhall contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Boston in the bottom of the second. With his team trailing 1-0, Newhall took a forkball from Fred Moore and stroked the home run to right. His 3rd home run of the season allowed the Minutemen to leap in front, 2-1.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Newhall. | |
