| Almost There: New York On Cusp of World Championship Series Triumph After 4-1 Win | The New York Imperials got a strong performance from pitcher Jim White, who stymied the Los Angeles offense en route to a 4-1 win in Game 4 of the World Championship Series. The Suns could never get a bead on the right-handed White, who threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball. The Imperials now hold a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 series.
Al Reece, who finished 3rd in the CA in batting average with .337 in 1975, took Los Angeles hurler Heinie Schmidt deep in the bottom of the eighth. His 3-run home run put the Imperials on top, 4-1. In all, Reece had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.
"Jim's a gamer," said New York manager Jim Abernathy. "Glad he's on our side."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Dyckman Stadium in New York. | |
