| New York Draws First Blood in World Championship Series With 7-0 Win | The stakes were high. Jim White was ready.
The right-hander turned in a performance for the ages at Wilshire Park, pitching a 9-inning, complete-game shutout to lead the New York Imperials to victory in Game 1 of the World Championship Series. White held the Los Angeles Suns to 3 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 9. The win got the best-of-7 series off to a good start for New York, which now leads 1-0.
White, the starting pitcher for New York, took care of business. The right-hander, who is a two-time All-Star, racked up 9 Ks, while allowing just 3 hits. Opposing hitters had trouble barreling up the ball.
"I went after the hitters," said White. "No pussyfooting around."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Wilshire Park in Los Angeles. | |
