Imperials Hammered by Barnes, Drop Game 2 to Kings
With shortstop Sam Barnes leading the charge, the Seattle Kings defeated the visiting New York Imperials, 5-2, in Game 2 of the Association Championship Series. Barnes went 2 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 times at Seattle Municipal Stadium to help Seattle force a 1-1 tie in the best-of-5 series.

A crucial at-bat came with the bases empty and no one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. That's when center fielder Tom Hicks, who led the CA in runs with 119 in 1971, hit a triple. The Kings went on to win.

Seattle manager Alex Watt praised his team's "businesslike approach."

Game 3 is scheduled for Friday at Dyckman Stadium in New York.
