The inspired effort of Pittsburgh left fielder Mike Whisman was not enough to prevent a loss, 10-9, to the Philadelphia Keystones. Whisman was 3 for 5 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Joe Kienle was the winner. He's now 9-6. The loser was 35-year old right-handed pitcher Eddie Martin. Charlie Rushing converted his 10th save in 12 tries.

Philadelphia second baseman Bob G. Murphy contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fifth. With two down, he hit a curveball to left field for a run-scoring single. It was his 131st hit of the season and put the Keystones ahead, 10-2.

"What a game," said Murphy. "We needed every last run."

The Keystones raised their record to 57-63.
