| Minutemen Saddle Comets with 5-2 Loss | Boston right-hander Charlie Roberts pitched his team to victory over the Houston Comets at Minuteman Stadium. The final score was 5-2. Roberts, now 4-3, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 1, walking 4, and allowing 2 runs. Bud Shireman was credited with the save for Boston, his 10th of the season.
Buddy Miller had a big run-scoring double for the Minutemen in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Boston leading 3-2 and a runner on 1st, he got a cutter from Joe McCarthy, who is tied for 3rd in the FA in quality starts with 9, and swatted a double to center. It was his 6th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Minutemen ahead, 4-2.
"It was a team effort and I thought the guys had a good plan and approach," said Roberts after the game.
Houston has now lost 4 in a row.
