| St. Louis Downed, 3-0, by Copperheads | Jack Kotarski, who finished 4th in the FA in wins with 16 in 1966, never let the Pioneers get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his cutter, to pitch the Copperheads to a win, 3-0. Reliever Bill Hunn picked up the win. His record improves to 5-2. Jack Cornwell took the loss. Buddy Thomas earned the save for Atlanta.
Don Riley contributed a productive at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With a runner on 1st, he hit a single. His at-bat helped Atlanta get the win.
"We've got a great group of guys," Kotarski said, "and we're having fun right now."
Atlanta is now 32-17, 4½ games up in the Federal Association East. | |
