| Critical Game 5 Goes to Host Copperheads, 2-1 | The Atlanta Copperheads got a strong performance from pitcher Howie Burt, who stymied the Seattle offense en route to a 2-1 win in Game 5 of the World Championship Series. The Kings could never get a bead on the left-handed Burt, who threw 6.2 innings of 5-hit ball. The Copperheads now hold a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-7 series.
John Moreland hit a run-scoring double off Moe Lowery in the bottom of the seventh, which put the Copperheads in front, 2-1. In addition to the double, Moreland had 2 singles, while going 3 for 3.
"Things broke our way today and that's great," Copperheads manager Don Fox said. "It's important, though, to stay focused and not pat yourself on the back too much. We aren't done yet."
Game 6 is scheduled for Thursday at Seattle Municipal Stadium in Seattle. | |
