| Suns Clip Copperheads, 4-3, in ACS Contest | The Los Angeles Suns went the distance and then some at Peachtree Stadium to drag themselves back into a tie with the Atlanta Copperheads.
It took 10 innings to settle Game 2 of the Association Championship Series, but Los Angeles eventually took the 4-3 win behind the efforts of pitcher Heinie Schmidt. Schmidt threw 7.0 innings allowing 3 runs to aid the Los Angeles cause. The clubs are now tied 1-1 in their best-of-5 series.
Los Angeles used a clutch hit from George Whaley to get the win. The first baseman drilled a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Suns ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I hate extra innings," Los Angeles manager Jim Coulter said. "It makes everyone more tired, wears out the bullpen, wears out the fans. Even winning doesn't make me feel good about it."
The next game is set to be played for Monday, October 7th , 1974 at Wilshire Park in Los Angeles. | |
