Pioneers Lose to Eagles, 6-1
Washington got a strong outing from Owen Lantz as the Eagles defeated the St. Louis Pioneers, 6-1, at Columbia Stadium. With the victory, the Eagles upped their record to 39-22.

George Whaley had a big 2-run triple for the Eagles in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Washington leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Billy Hasson, who finished 2nd in the FA in innings pitched with 235.1 in 1960, and swatted a triple to left-center. It was his 9th triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Eagles ahead, 3-0.

"Owen made some big pitches when he needed to," said Eagles manager Roger Cleaves.
