| Mavericks Suffer One-Run Loss at Montreal | Stade Montreal was the site of a tense game between the Kansas City Mavericks and Montreal Saints.
The Montreal Saints converted a terrific effort from starter Don Curtis into a win over the Kansas City Mavericks at Stade Montreal. The Saints won the game by a final score of 3-2. Curtis, now 2-3, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Picking up his 7th save was 28-year old right-handed pitcher Miguel Hernandez.
Had Joe Robertson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Robertson hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Saints.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Montreal skipper Harry Barrell. "I can't complain."
The Saints now have a record of 22-27 with the win over Kansas City. | |
