Millers Edge Past Suns, 5-4 | The Minneapolis Millers defeated the Los Angeles Suns, 5-4. Doing his part was left fielder Johnny Taylor, who went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. Don Hillshire earned the win for Minneapolis. He lasted 7 innings, allowing 4 runs on 11 hits, while striking out 4. With the win, he raised his record to 8-7. Bobby Crooks recorded the save, making him 6 for 11.
An inflection point occurred with no one out in the top of the eighth. That's when Millers third baseman Art Starling hit a changeup from Whitey Stewart for a 2-run single. Just like that, Minneapolis was up, 5-4.
"Some of the guys in here work hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Taylor told the Minneapolis Bulletin.
Minneapolis is now 40-70, Los Angeles 44-66. | |
