Eagles Flatten Pioneers, 9-2
The Washington Eagles got a marvelous performance from pitcher Otto Caudill. The left-hander kept the St. Louis offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 9-2 Washington victory at Columbia Stadium. Caudill yielded 2 runs over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 8. His record improves to 11-7. The third-place Eagles have won 4 consecutive games.

Chief Lewis had a big 2-run home run for the Eagles in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Washington trailing 2-1 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a slider from 24-year old left-handed pitcher Danny Daniels and punished it. The result was his 9th home run of the season, which put the Eagles on top, 3-2.

"Nice to tuck this win away," said Lewis.
